Travel Saving Tips!

July 27, 2023

You work hard every year in order to indulge on the vacation of your dreams.  Or, if you’re a business traveller you know that the cost of your trip impacts your company’s bottom line.   We know that saving on travel is important no matter your travel style so we’ve put together some of our top tips to help you save money and travel well.

PLAN EARLY
The early bird gets the worm is especially true when it comes to travel planning.   Although last-minute deals may come up from time to time the best way to secure the lowest price on your preferred airfare ticket or hotel room is by booking it as soon as you are able to.   Pricing is based on the current availability and the lowest priced options always sell out first.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EARLY BOOKING DISCOUNTS
Many vacation providers and tour companies offer early booking discounts and sales saving you hundreds of dollars.

WATCH FOR AND ASK YOUR TRAVEL AGENT IF THEY HAVE ANY EXCLUSIVE GROUP DEPARTURES AND PRICES
Travelling with a group can save you hundreds (or more!) in pre negotiated savings.  Here at Uniglobe Carefree Travel we often have group space blocked on tours, cruises and various other vacation packages.   We even have exclusive custom groups from time to time offering trips you can’t find anywhere else.

BE FLEXIBLE
Whether it’s your travel dates or your destination, having some flexibility in your plans means you will be able to take advantage of the best deals.  Sometimes leaving on a Monday instead of a Friday or visiting Riviera Maya instead of Cancun can make a big difference in the cost of your vacation.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT FARE TYPE ON YOUR FLIGHT
If you plan to take a checked bag, like to book your preferred seat in advance, or may need flexibility to make changes, paying a little bit extra when you book can save you money in the long run.  All those incidentals add up and inclusive or flexible fares are often only a small amount more at the time of purchase.

CHOOSE YOUR FINANCIAL INSTITUTION WISELY
Some banks offer savings accounts that will round up your purchases to the next dollar, putting a few cents aside every time you use your card.  It’s amazing how quickly the nickels and dimes add up.
Choose a credit card that offers a flexible travel points program that allows you to book travel whatever way you like and submit it to be refunded using the points.

PURCHASE TRAVEL INSURANCE
Although there is a cost to travel insurance, the reality is if something goes wrong, if luggage is lost or delayed or if a medical emergency happens the cost of these challenges is far greater than the cost of your travel insurance policy.  Sometimes spending money up front to save in the long run is the best choice.

Ultimately, it’s most important that you have a great vacation curated with your wants and needs in mind.  This is why our top travel tip is to speak with a travel professional who’s number one priority is your plans.
